Not the Sweet Potato Pie: a book review
I knew from the very first page that I was going to love this book.
It kicks off at a wild 50th anniversary party where Savvy Summers, our main character, is catering the event. She’s frustratingly unprepared, thanks to a complete lack of RSVPs, but the chaos that follows is unforgettable. The narration is so vivid, I felt like I was right there in the middle of it all.
Savvy Summers and the Sweet Potato Pie Crimes is a cozy mystery with a lot of heart (and humor). It begins with a trial run of a vegan pie and somehow ends with Viagra, yes, that blue pill.
The plot is full of fun twists and turns, and the soul food café setting pulls you in with every delicious description. I swear, my mouth was watering the whole time.
And yes, I laughed—out loud—more than once. If you’re in the mood for a cozy mystery that wraps you in the warm, flavorful world of Chicago’s soul food scene, this one’s a must-read.
