My September Recap

September slipped by in the blink of an eye, just like the rest of summer.
It wasn’t my most productive reading month, but it was full in all the best ways: friendship, family, books, and a few hobbits for good measure.

Let’s take a look at what I read!

Book four in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series delivers exactly what you'd expect, in the best way.

This RPG Lit adventure is packed with laugh-out-loud moments (seriously, I cackled). Each installment brings fresh plot twists, wild boss battles, and plenty of chaos, but I’ll admit: the books do start to blend together.

I couldn’t give you a detailed summary of each one, but here’s what sticks: Carl and Donut are still an iconic duo, Mongo the pet dinosaur is thriving, and a rotating cast of allies keeps things interesting.

If you're into fast-paced, irreverent, game-inspired storytelling, I’d absolutely recommend the series. Just know going in: it’s a bit repetitive, but then again, so are most video games.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

The first book in the All Souls Trilogy is a captivating blend of mystery, romance, found family, and, of course, supernatural creatures (we’re talking witches, demons, and vampires specifically).

I actually started with the show, but I’ll be honest, I had no idea what was going on. So I picked up the book to make sense of it all, and I’m glad I did.

It’s a slow burn, but it builds a much clearer, richer picture of the world. After finishing the book, I re-watched the first season, and it was so much easier to follow (and a lot more enjoyable) with that context in mind.

The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

This book came off hold just as Hispanic Heritage Month began, and the timing couldn’t have been better.

It was the perfect read to celebrate both the season and the moment, a rich, dark academia vibe that felt tailor-made for fall.

It gave me the same immersive, moody feeling I got from A Discovery of Witches, the kind of book that pulls you in and sets the tone for crisp weather, warm drinks, and long reading sessions.

As we dive into October, I’m excited for more spooky reads, cozy blankets, and my birthday!
