5 Spooky Books to Read in October
October has officially arrived and with it comes the perfect excuse to fill your TBR with all things spooky, eerie, and delightfully chilling.
Whether you're into haunted houses, supernatural creatures, psychological thrillers, or just a touch of Halloween magic, this is the month to lean into the dark and mysterious side of reading.
From slow-burn suspense to full-on horror, I’ve rounded up some of the best spooky books to keep you company all month long.
So grab your coziest blanket, light a candle (or maybe just keep the lights on), and prepare to get creeped out in the best way.
One of my favorite moments in Weyward (mild spoiler ahead!) is when one of the main characters walks up the stairs of the old mansion and notices a strange, crunchy texture on the banister. She soon realizes it’s a layer of crystallized bugs, frozen in time. It’s the perfect blend of unsettling and atmospheric, making it an ideal read for spooky season.
Is she a witch, sorceress, daughter of Satan, murderer, thief, or saint? Marie Laveau has been called all of these names, but still continues to be the most important Voodooienne of this continent.
“A young woman living in a rigid, puritanical society discovers dark powers within herself in this stunning, feminist fantasy debut.” This screams Salem Witch Trials in fantasy.
Now this is a nonfiction book, but before you run away screaming, just know reading the history in this book is spookier than any fiction book you’ll find.
A bewitching historical horror with zombies. I know, I know, zombies aren’t sexy like Vampires or faeries, but this book will have you spellbound.
